Why I Am Not Seeking Nor Accepting Financial Donations to My Campaign

Campaign Finance
Financial Donations
Money in Politics

There is already far too much money in politics. Over $15 billion was spent on Congressional and Presidential elections in 2024 by candidates, political parties, and independent interest groups trying to influence federal election outcomes.

But what percentage of those funds was used to bridge divides, help substantively inform voters on issues, or trickle back to communities in need? And what percentage instead fueled political divides, fed hateful narratives and rhetoric, and amplified extremism?

I firmly believe we need to rethink the purpose of money in politics and political campaigns. We must increase scrutiny and accountability of campaign financial disclosures, restrict campaign donations both in terms of who can donate and how much they can donate, and more importantly, require a percentage of all donations to serve the public interest by being reinvested in charities or nonprofit organizations that align with candidates' values.

The best way to contribute financially to my campaign is to donate your money to the many causes that I support and that you likewise champion. Politics is about service. Consider donating in my campaign's name to the many great institutions and charitable organizations that serve underrepresented communities, that provide access to justice, that provide housing and support for the homeless, that combat child hunger, that create educational opportunities for all our children, that provide support and care for animals and wildlife, that compassionately care for our seniors, our veterans, and our first responders, and that build free access to knowledge.
